Wout Zanders, poultry farmer in Oirlo (L.), has won the 2.500 euro prestige prize for his innovative vermin exclusion idea. He has managed to keep rats out of his stables by securing wire mats, equipped with the heaviest possible barbed wire, around the stable. Read more

Ventilation hose for manure transport
The panel awarded pig farmer Mark Steentjes (NL) from Gelderland’s Etten’s hygiene thinking with a prestige prize of 2.500 euro. Steentjes wants to avoid polluted air from the vehicles used to load manure at his company to enter his stable via the air inlet. Read more

Flies expelled with air
Dairy farmer René Loman from Laren (Gld.) especially wanted to get rid of the flies which disturb everything whilst milking the cows on those hot summer days. This is why he designed the Air Fly Remover; he uses this to blow air underneath the cow’s udder, which chases the flies away. Read more

Poultry chest width measurement
Poultry farmer Josef Jürgens from the German Pelle has developed a method which can electronically measure the chest width of cockerels. Measuring the cockerels’ chest width in itself is nothing new, but this is currently mostly done by picking up the cockerels and feeling them. Read more

Low emission floor
The dairy farmer Elferink from Tubbergen’s low emission floor has won the prestige prize of €2,500,-. The reduction in emission, as calculated based on a model built by Elferink (see photo 1), certainly impressed the jury. Read more

Mobile boot cleaner
The mobile boot cleaner by pig farmer Jos Meekes from Groenlo has also received the €2,500,-. The jury was unanimous: “You need to enter every pen with clean boots, in order to prevent the transmission of diseases. However, it takes a great deal of time for farmers to keep disinfectant containers clean, or to swap or clean their shoes in between entering pens. Read more
