Broadly applicable vermin exclusion

Wout Zanders, poultry farmer in Oirlo (L.), has won the 2.500 euro prestige prize for his innovative vermin exclusion idea. He has managed to keep rats out of his stables by securing wire mats, equipped with the heaviest possible barbed wire, around the stable. The jury felt this was a good alternative, as the use of pest control products has been considerably restricted. It’s simple to use and relatively cheap too. Plus it’s an innovation which isn’t just for use in poultry farming, but is also perfectly suitable for other sectors.
